Set
in beautiful Cotswold countryside and housed in a fine 18th century stone barn,
Donnington Trout Farm is an interesting place for all the family to visit. The
trout farm, which has been running for over 25 years, has a large hatchery for
the rearing of young rainbow and brown trout, a selection of which are on
display. Visitors can feed the larger fish and see them rise in a writhing mass
to catch the food. The farm's water come from clear cool Cotswold
springs, which means that our pink-fleshed trout taste
delicious. Our farm shop is kept stocked with trout to suit
every occasion, from starter-sized half pounders to dinner party
sized 'salmon-trout'. Customers can select from thousands of
live trout, knowing that their fish can be really fresh.
A speciality of the farm is delicately flavoured smoked
trout produced on the premises. 'Hot smoked' trout are small
whole fish that have been cooked in the smoking process. They
can be served whole or used in a multitude of delicious dishes.
'Cold smoked' trout are fillets of larger trout that have been
smoked in the same way as smoked salmon. The result is a true
delicacy at a reasonable price. We also produce a very popular
smoked trout paté.
Next to the farm is a small secluded lake which is open
for fly fishing all year. Day and half-day tickets are available
and even a novice won't leave empty handed - a two fish bag is
guaranteed on a day ticket. The lake is stocked regularly with
rainbow and brown trout. Equipment hire is available and tuition
can be arranged. Please telephone for bookings.
